Our BAKFlip G2 combines four-panel aluminum construction with a dual-action folding mechanism that opens in three distinct positions — full bed access, partial access to the front third, or flat closed. The patented hinge system locks each fold into position, so you can prop the cover at 90 degrees against the cab or roll it all the way back against the window without manual latches. Aluminum panel construction & finish
Every G2 panel starts as marine-grade aluminum sheet stock, then receives a multi-stage powder coat that bonds at the molecular level. This finish resists scratches from loading gear and won’t flake or peel after years of sun exposure. We chose aluminum over fiberglass or vinyl because it maintains rigidity without adding bulk — the entire cover weighs under 70 pounds, yet supports up to 300 pounds of evenly distributed snow or gear when closed.
The surface texture is matte, so glare doesn’t reflect into your cab during day driving. Panel edges are hemmed and sealed to prevent water infiltration at the hinge joints, and each fold point includes a stainless steel pivot pin that won’t corrode in salt or humidity.

Release the rear latch and fold all four panels forward against the cab window. The hinges lock at 90 degrees automatically, giving you unrestricted access to haul tall cargo like refrigerators or stacked plywood. No need to remove the cover or store panels separately.
Partial access to front section
Fold just the front panel back to reach items stored near the cab. The hinge holds this single panel upright while the remaining three stay flat, sealing the rest of the bed. This mode is useful for quick tool grabs without fully opening the cover.
Weather sealing & drainage
EPDM rubber seals run the full perimeter of the cover, compressing against the bed rail when closed to block rain, snow, and dust. These seals are UV-resistant and rated for temperature extremes from -40°F to 140°F, so they won’t crack in winter or soften in desert heat.
Integrated drainage channels at each hinge joint route water toward the bed corners, preventing pooling on the panel surfaces. If you live in a region with heavy snowfall, the 300-pound load rating means the cover won’t buckle under accumulation — though we recommend clearing deep snow to avoid excess weight on the hinges. The replacement seal kit for the G2 includes pre-cut lengths for all four edges, so you can refresh the weather barrier every few years without replacing the entire cover.

Common questions about the G2
We don't recommend driving with any panels folded upright. Wind pressure at highway speeds can stress the hinge mechanisms and create drag. If you need to haul tall cargo, fold the cover fully forward against the cab and secure it with a bungee or strap for transit, or remove it entirely for longer trips.
The G2 requires access to your factory bed stake pockets for rail mounting, so it's not compatible with most bed rail accessories that occupy the same mounting points. Low-profile toolboxes that sit near the cab may work if they leave at least 12 inches of clearance from the rear edge, but crossover toolboxes that span the full bed width will prevent installation.
Plan for at least two inches of clearance when the G2 is fully folded forward. Most factory truck configurations provide adequate space, but aftermarket cab racks, headache racks, or rear-cab storage boxes may interfere. Measure from your tailgate to the back of the cab before ordering to confirm fit.
Both share the same four-panel aluminum construction and hinge system. The MX4 adds a denser powder coat finish with enhanced UV inhibitors, upgraded stainless steel latches rated for 50,000 cycles, and a slightly heavier-gauge aluminum panel. The G2 uses standard powder coat and zinc-alloy latches. For most climates, the G2 offers the same structural durability at a lower price point.
The powder coat finish is designed to last the life of the product, but you can apply vinyl wrap over the panels if you want a custom color or texture. Avoid sanding or chemically stripping the original finish, as that voids the warranty. If you choose to wrap, use high-quality automotive vinyl rated for outdoor UV exposure and follow the manufacturer's prep guidelines for adhesion to powder-coated surfaces.
The G2 is tested from negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. In freezing conditions, the EPDM seals remain pliable and the aluminum won't crack. In desert heat, the powder coat resists fading and the panels won't warp. If you experience ice buildup along the seals in winter, tap gently with a rubber mallet rather than forcing the latch open.
Measure your truck bed from the inside of the bulkhead to the inside of the tailgate. Short beds measure 5 feet 7 inches to 6 feet 2 inches, standard beds measure 6 feet 4 inches to 6 feet 7 inches, and long beds measure 8 feet.
