BAKFlip G2 Tonneau Cover for Toyota Tundra

★★★★★4.8/5· thousands of reviews

Our BAKFlip G2 for the Toyota Tundra combines heavy-duty aluminum construction with a low-profile design that sits flush against your truck bed rails. This hard folding cover folds completely open for full bed access, or you can configure it in multiple positions to carry taller cargo while keeping the front of the bed covered.

The matte black finish resists UV damage and eliminates glare, while the FRP (fiberglass-reinforced polymer) panels deliver dent resistance without the weight of solid fiberglass. We engineer every G2 cover for quick installation with no drilling required—most Tundra owners finish the install in under an hour using basic hand tools.

Weather seals run along every panel edge to keep rain, snow, and road spray out of your bed. The automatic latching system locks each panel section independently, so you control exactly how much bed space you need at any moment.

  • Heavy-gauge aluminum panels with matte black FRP finish
  • Fits Toyota Tundra model years 2007–2025 with 5.5', 6.5', or 8.1' bed (confirm your bed length at checkout)
  • Folds flat against the cab for 100% bed access or positions at 90° intervals
  • Automatic latching system—no straps, no snaps
  • Dual-action tailgate seal maintains weather protection even when tailgate is open

Panel construction and finish

Panel construction and finish

We build the BAKFlip G2 Tundra cover with extruded aluminum frames and FRP panel inserts that resist dents, dings, and UV fading. The matte finish eliminates the shine you’d see on glossy tonneau covers, which means no glare in your rearview mirror on sunny days.

Each panel measures roughly 1 inch thick when closed, giving you a streamlined profile that doesn’t add bulk above your bed rails. The reinforced hinge system connects the four panels and allows you to fold the cover forward in sections—two panels back to access the rear bed, or all four panels flat against the cab when you need the entire bed open.

Edge seals

Every panel edge on the BAKFlip G2 features an EPDM rubber seal that compresses when the cover closes, forming a continuous barrier against water intrusion. We designed the seal geometry to channel light rain and car-wash spray toward the bed’s factory drain holes rather than letting it pool on the panel surface.

Tailgate seal

The dual-action tailgate seal is one of the features Tundra owners mention most often in their feedback. When your tailgate is closed, the seal sits tight against the tailgate’s top edge. If you drop the tailgate to haul longer cargo, the seal rotates downward and maintains contact with the bed floor, so rain can’t sneak in through that gap.

Installation on the Tundra bed

Installation on the Tundra bed

The BAKFlip G2 installs without drilling or permanent hardware. You’ll clamp the side rails directly to your Tundra’s bed rails using the included aluminum clamps—eight clamps total, four per side.

Start by positioning the front rail assembly at the bulkhead (the wall behind your cab). The rail sits on top of your bed rail, and you’ll hand-tighten the clamps to hold it in place. Then attach the rear rail near the tailgate, leaving about a half-inch gap between the rail and the tailgate’s rubber seal when the tailgate is closed.

Perfect fit on my 2018 CrewMax
I installed this on my 2018 Tundra CrewMax with the 5.5-foot bed. Took about 50 minutes by myself—no help needed. The clamps lined up perfectly, and the cover sits flush with the bed rails. I've had it on for six months now, through rain and snow, and the inside of my bed stays dry.

Way easier than my old snap cover
I used to have a soft roll-up cover with snaps. This BAKFlip G2 is so much faster to open and close. I usually just fold the back two panels when I need to grab something, and it takes like three seconds. The automatic latch is a game changer.

Solid build quality
The aluminum panels feel really sturdy. I've had cheaper covers before that dented easily, but this one has held up great even after I accidentally dropped a toolbox on it. The matte finish also looks way better than the shiny covers I see on other trucks.

Great cover, minor adjustment needed
Installation was straightforward, but I did have to adjust the front clamps a bit to get the cover to sit totally even. Once I got it dialed in, it's been perfect. Love that I can fold it all the way open when I need the full bed for lumber runs.

Best tonneau I've owned
I've owned three different tonneau covers over the years, and this BAKFlip G2 is by far the best. The folding design is so practical—I can haul a dirt bike with the cover open, or keep my tools locked up when it's closed. No regrets on this purchase.

Exactly what my Tundra needed
I wanted something low-profile that didn't look bulky, and the G2 fits the bill. It adds barely any height above the bed rails, so it doesn't mess with my truck's look. Installation was easier than I expected—just hand tools and about an hour of my time.

Common questions about the BAKFlip G2 for Tundra

Yes, the G2 is compatible with most spray-in bed liners. The cover clamps to the top of your bed rails, so as long as the liner doesn't add height to the rail surface itself, you're good to go.

Some thick drop-in liners do extend above the bed rails, which can interfere with the seal. If you have a drop-in liner, measure the height at the rail—if it's flush or below the rail's top edge, the G2 will install normally.

Measure your truck bed from the inside of the bulkhead (the wall behind the cab) to the inside of the tailgate. Toyota Tundra beds come in three lengths: 5.5 feet (66 inches), 6.5 feet (78 inches), and 8.1 feet (97 inches).

You can also check your truck's door jamb sticker or your original window sticker—it usually lists the bed size. When you order from us, you'll select your model year and bed length, and we'll ship the correct G2 variant.

Yes, you can drive with all four panels folded open and resting against the cab. The panels lock in the fully open position, so they won't flop around while you're moving.

We recommend not exceeding highway speeds with the cover wide open for extended periods—high winds can stress the hinge system over time. For short trips or slower speeds, it's completely fine.

The BAKFlip G2 latches automatically when you close the panels, but it does not include a built-in key lock. If your Tundra has a locking tailgate, the cover is only as secure as the tailgate lock—someone could drop the tailgate and access the bed from the rear.

For added security, you can pair the G2 with our optional tailgate lock accessory, which prevents the tailgate from being opened without a key. Many Tundra owners also use the cover in combination with a locking tailgate handle or a bed-mounted lock box for valuables.

The G2 and MX4 share the same aluminum frame and four-panel folding design. The main difference is the panel finish—the MX4 uses a slightly thicker FRP coating with enhanced UV inhibitors, which gives it better long-term fade resistance in extreme sun.

The MX4 also has upgraded rubber seals at the hinge points, which can provide a marginally tighter seal in heavy rain. For most Tundra owners, the G2 offers excellent weather protection and durability at a lower price point.

The G2 is rated to support up to 300 pounds of evenly distributed static weight when the panels are fully closed and latched. We've tested it with snow loads, camping gear, and light cargo like kayaks (with proper cradles).

Do not stand or walk on the cover—it's designed to carry equipment weight, not concentrated body weight. If you need to load something on top, distribute the weight across all four panels and secure it with straps or a rack system.

The G2 itself does not include mounting points for a traditional roof rack. However, you can install a low-profile bed rack system that clamps to your Tundra's bed rails independently of the tonneau cover—some racks are designed to work alongside folding covers like the G2.

If you need to carry bikes, kayaks, or rooftop cargo regularly, we recommend looking at our accessory catalog for compatible rack systems. You may also want to consider the BAKFlip CS model, which has an integrated rack track built into the cover.
